The gardens at Moor Close, Binfield, England, are a
hidden gem of the Arts & Crafts period. In 1911,
millionaire Charles Birch Crisp asked the then
unknown architect Oliver Hill to enlarge the existing
house and create new gardens featuring curved
staircases, pergolas and pavilions. Unfortunately the
gardens fell into disrepair after Crisp ran into
financial difficulties and the property was bought by
Newbold College. Through renewed interest in Hill’s
work, the house and gardens are now listed and are
currently being restored.
The Restoration project
The gardens are currently being
restored.
A management group has been
established to coordinate activities
and restoration.
Restoration takes time and funding,
and while some work has already
been done, a lot more is still in the
planning stage.
Focus is also on a smaller portion of
the garden named Sylvia's Garden,
which has it's own website.
Events & Rental
The Gardens can accomodate several
types of events. You are welcome to
contact us to hear more about how to
rent the garden for your private
events, or join in on some of the
public events and activities. Planned
events might depend on attendance.
Please make sure you check the
availability before booking.
